The doctors’ trade union has issued guidance to doctors and medical students on use of social media such as Facebook, Twitter, blogs and internet forums and advised them not to accept Facebook requests from current or former patients.

The guidance advises doctors to consider adopting conservative privacy settings where they are available but to be aware that not all information can be protected on the web.
