CALL FOR PROPOSAL

“Research on Knowledge, Attitude and Practice about Sexual & Reproductive Health (SRH) and Access to SRH Education and Services for Young People with Disabilities”

UNESCO Beijing Office is calling for proposal on a research that aims to find out about knowledge, attitude and practice about sexual and reproductive health (SRH) among young people with disabilties in China and their access to SRH education and services.
        Both individual researchers and institutions could apply. Applicants shall submit their application to hy.li@unesco.org, before 5pm, 11 June 2014. The application documents shall include:
•   A narrative report on the strength and competitive advantage of the applicant (either individual researcher or institute) in conducting the research in light of the selection criteria specified in the attached Terms of Reference (TOR).
•   Profile of the lead researcher(s), and composition and background of the research team members (if applicable)
•   A proposed research plan with a realistic budget breakdown, according to the tasks and deliverables specified in the TOR.
•   Examples of relevant previous research reports that can demonstrate the research capability of the applicant

Criteria for Selection of Research Institute/Researchers

                The research institute or researchers to undertake the research shall meet the following criteria:
•   Have good understanding and conceptualization of gender and rights, including children’s rights in China
•   Good understanding of sexual and reproductive health issues especially for young people with disabilities in China
•   Proven expertise in conducting formative research, with skills in both qualitative and quantitative research including sampling methodologies.
•   Prior experience in conducting research in a participatory manner, with proven facilitation skills
•   Prior experience in conducting community and school-based surveys in China and have access to communities and schools
•   Prior experience of working with multiple stakeholders in designing and conducting surveys.
•   Prior experience in obtaining ethical clearances for social research.
•   Excellent command of the English and Chinese languages with quality written and verbal communication skills.

        All application documents shall be in English (compulsory), preferably in both English and Chinese, with the exception of examples of relevant previous research reports which can be in either English or Chinese as they were published or are available.

Decision Making

        All applications will be reviewed during the period of 12 to 20 June 2014. Shortlisted applicants might be invited for a face-to-face interview during 23 to 27 June 2014 before the final selection.
        UNESCO will inform both successful and unsuccessful applicants but are not obliged to give explanation about the selection process.

        The total budget for the research is around $38,000.
