Qigong (ch'i kung pronounced 'chee gung') is the ancient art of health maintenance and healing that originated several thousand years ago in China. Qigong and Tai Chi are exercises as well as meditations. The ultimate goal of Qigong is to improve the balance of the functions of the body. It is a physical exercise, meditation and spiritual path.

While Yoga originated from India several thousand years ago. Yoga is a broad holistic practice which is beneficial to both physical and mental health through yoga poses (asanas), breathing techniques (pranayama) and meditation (dhyana). An improvement in posture and breathing is not the sole nor even the primary aim of yoga. Instead, it is either a therapeutic method of freeing the mind from false beliefs, or the insight into ultimate reality,
