投了篇NEJM，记录一下

今年初，在黄道吉日向New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) 投了一篇刚完成的论文，看起来已经过了编辑关，今天（2022-1-28）是春节前最后一个工作日，摸鱼中也记录一下投稿历程，希望我虎年好运。
NEJM对字数、图表数量和引文数量均有严格要求：
文章类型： Original Article.
字数上限： 2700 words.
图表上限： 5 Tables and Figures.
引文上限： 40 references.
我的这篇论文是Original Article，字数在27XX，不超过2800，形式审查也顺利通过了。NEJM发表的论文有的图形和表格可以放在一张图上（上图下表），但我不大会用，用Stata也做不出来，应该是需要用LaTeX这种专业的排版工具，不会弄，索性就将流程图放在附录里了，减少图形数量以满足要求。
另外，把两个类似的图形用Stata Graph combine命令合并在一起，弄了一个Figure 3A和Figure 3B，算一个图形，O(∩_∩)O 这个都是形式主义，懒得花费太多的时间在这上面，有希望的话再进一步细整，毕竟每个杂志要求都不太一样，而在NEJM发文又是一个令人仰望的存在。
Cover Letter 也没写，NEJM并不强制要求 Cover Letter ，所以也省了，能省就省，一切随简。

- 2022-1-28早上状态还是Searching for Reviewers，晚上习惯性登陆一看又变回了Assigned to an Editor，册那，感情是编辑这一关还要再过一回？心中不由一沉

- 送审了，起码还是非常不错的。

- NEJM诚不欺我，外审果然只用了7天。
In almost all cases, two peer reviewers evaluate each submission within one to two weeks and submit written reports to the NEJM editors.
下一步就进入Full Editorial Team Review and Statistical Review环节，拒稿或进入编委每周例会。
Using peer reviews and their own judgments, NEJM associate editors then decide whether to decline a manuscript (a decision which must be seconded by a deputy editor) or to bring it to a weekly editorial meeting attended by all NEJM deputy editors, associate editors, and statistical consultants for discussion and debate.

这可是我距离NEJM最近的一步了，好歹走出了IHO，经历了外审和编委讨论。审稿人的水平也就那样，哈哈，还是要感谢编辑和审稿人的评论，毕竟，免费获得这些顶级编辑和审稿人的comments也实属难得。
Your manuscript, "XXXXXX," was evaluated by external reviewers and was discussed among the editors. Although it is interesting, I am sorry to say it was not accepted for publication. This was an editorial decision and reflects an assessment of the merits of your manuscript as compared with the many others we receive. Unfortunately, many manuscripts must be declined for lack of space.

- 被自动转到Annals of Internal Medicine，没想到也被拒稿，哎。
My colleagues and I have read your paper and the reviews from the New England Journal of medicine. I am sorry to report that we have decided not to accept it for publication. We think that our internal medicine readers are not the most appropriate audience for this manuscript that addresses a topic of greatest relevance to pediatricians.
